'Arabian Sands' is considered one of the great travel books.
Wilfred Thesiger wrote it following his journeys through
Oman and Arabia. However though
undoubtedly important within the book Thesiger travelled far
more widely than just through fields of Mega Sand Dunes. His
journeys included the rolling mountains surrounding Salalah
, the angular landscape of Oman's north as well as Oman's
two deserts, the Rub al Khali and Wahiba Sands.
Join us and travel through Thesiger's Oman
on an all inclusive tour – we visit Salalah from
where he started his explorations, the foothills near Ibri in the north where he was
forced to wait for seven days while his companions collected
supplies in the town that was forbidden to him and the well
at ‘Bai’ where an emotional reunion took place after his
first crossing of the Rub Al Khali.
After your arrival into Salalah in the
far south of Oman you will spend 2 nights at the comfortable
Juweira Hotel from which we will visit the
mountains behind Salalah (Wadi Darbat below left which was
visited by Thesiger in February 1947). Then for 4 nights we camp not only
in sand desert but on the vast plain of central Oman. In the
north of Oman we stay in a permanent camp where your tent
has a private shower and toilet and have a night in Nizwa
and one in Ibri. Before your flight out of Oman you will
spend 2 nights at the Al Falaj Hotel in Muscat.
